YOU OUGHT TO SEE MY HEART Unisex T-shirt REISSUE! (size XXL)

Front and back printing in white ink on 100% cotton Garnet Red unisex t-shirt.

Drawing originally from the lyrics of the George Strait song Down and Out, which says “If I look rough on the outside/You ought to see my heart,” I was inspired to create this masterpiece of fine art in 2018 which juxtaposed those words with a found vintage, mass-produced wall decoration depicting a crude Pegasus, both set into a deteriorating vintage wood-framed mirror:

The words “You ought to see my heart” took on new meaning in the wake of the senseless deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and the continued murders and criminal brutality by the police against Black people.  “You ought to see my heart” is a simplified plea against racism and bigotry: everybody has a heart that is asking to be seen, no matter how different from you that person my seem to be.

This is why I am donating $5 from every sale to the NAACP’s Legal Defense Fund (LDF), who are working hard to protect voting rights around the country! Last round, I donated the same percentage to Black Lives Matter ($150 total in the end), which is still a worthy cause. Right now with the impending elections, though, I feel like the focus on voting rights is most important.

The front of the shirt is emblazoned with the words “YOU OUGHT TO SEE MY HEART,” in letters hand-drawn by me, printed in reverse as if the wearer’s soul has written the message from the inside.  (They appear correctly when you look at your own reflexion in the mirror!)

The back is printed with my copy of the Pegasus depicted on the found wall art in my original piece – triumphant, free, going someplace. It’s what people will see when you are walking away.

This shirt is perfect for any occasion, but especially great to wear at Black Lives Matters and anti-Trump demonstrations or gatherings, feminist uprisings, LGBTQIA anythings, first dates, dinner with the in-laws, or just on a day when you need to feel like you won’t let anything get in the way of conquering the world. It also is a real showstopper at any and all Zoom meetings where the writing will appear correctly, not in reverse!
